Three is the magic number.

Okay. So the past week has seen the Trifecta of Suckitude, what with the following:

    1. We found out that we actually *owe* the Feds on our taxes this year, instead of getting a refund. Sucky.
    2. Shortly after finding this out, I sprained my ankle tripping over some junk on the sidewalk in downtown Raleigh, running to catch a TTA bus. Grrrr. Double suck.
    3. I received my 90 millionth rejection from New American Paintings. Voilà, triple suck.

Despite all this, I am going to try *try* TRY to conjure all of my glass-half-full thoughts, the last shreds of any optimism I may have once possessed, and be happy about the following:

    1. My awesome painter friend Sadie started a cool new blog of work by contemporary women painters, take a look-see:
http://womenpaintingwomen.blogspot.com
    2. I recently got myself a T-shirt by Raleigh artist Casey Porn (yes, that's her real name), and I'm super-duper happy about it.
    3. We're going to be in Seattle this weekend, which I'm very curious about. Whoo!! Trip!!!

More soon, including photos and our impressions of the yonder Pacific Northwest...

Little Bit.

I recently did a little commissioned piece, an homage to a super-awesome Raleigh artist. The reference model for the painting was Little Bit, the dog of my former studiomate from San Francisco (now based out of Cleveland, Ohio).

I ♥ Little Bit.

Just ducky.

Tonight I'm going to turn in my painting for the upcoming fundraiser at Artspace in downtown Raleigh, to raise $ for their summer arts programs for youth. The event, "Give and Take", will take place the evening of April 2, 2009 - and for the price of admission ($10) plus another $50, you can take home a 12"x12" work of art by a local artist! Bargain! Woot! For more details, click here. In the meantime, here's my contribution to the effort:

Nighttime at Morning Times.

Props to those who made it out to the opening reception for the Morning Times show last Friday night – there was a decent turnout, especially after about 9pm or so. Thanks also to the Raleigh Chapter of the AIGA, which sponsored the show and sent out some Quality representatives in the form of Napoleon Wright and Matt Muñoz. Thanks guys! And, of course, a huge shout-out to Megan Sullivan, the gallery director over at Morning Times, who is sheer awesomeness.

I haven't downloaded all photos yet, but here are some which demonstrate that it is possible, with the right height and angle, to give people bunny ears via my painting after the magic. Behold:

Obsession.

What is it with me that I can't stop painting bunnies? Bunnies bunnies bunnies. Bunnies and goats, too. Goats and bunnies. They're both so damn cute, that's why. I think. That might account for the kitty paintings too. Lord help me.

Fuming.

I've just been putting last touches on some paintings for the Morning Times show, courtesy of some Liquin. Man, is that stuff potent - the fumes, I mean... I can hear the CLUNK sound as each brain cell falls down dead up in the noggin. Whoah. I am fully 60% more stupid than when I began tonight. Ungh. Grunt grunt. Me make painting. Look at here. Ungh:

Cupcakes.

I've recently begun eating normal (read: solid) foods since I had a wisdom tooth extracted a week and a half ago... in the meantime, it had been a struggle painting this painting with its yummy cupcakes. Mmmm, cupcakes...
